Cyanco started producing liquid sodium cyanide in 1990 at a single plant in Winnemucca, Nevada. The plant was constructed for the sole purpose of providing this strategic chemical to the mining industry in northern Nevada. This state-of-the-art, zero discharge facility is fittingly a paragon of environmental and safety engineering. Safety is the number one priority at all of our operations, and practices are expected to comply with rigid standards and procedures. The original plant was designed to produce 28 million pounds of product annually. A second plant came online in 1997 and investments have been made in both plants over the years to debottleneck, implement improvements and enhancements and increase production. Today, the two plants have production capacity of over 240 million pounds annually. In early 2009 the Nevada Operations achieved the 1 billion pound production milestone, which represents approximately 60,000 loads of our product safely delivered to mining customers in Nevada and the surrounding states.
Cadillac Distribution Center
Cyanco’s ICMC certified distribution center is located in Cadillac, Quebec between the two largest cities in the Abitibi region – Val d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda – in close proximity to a gold mining district that enjoys a rich history and that is looking forward to further growth. The Terminal is a distribution facility located in the heart of the Canadian gold mining industry. Solid and solution sodium cyanide is received in rail cars and dissolved to liquid and/or transloaded for delivery via tank trailer to customers in Quebec and Ontario. The Canada Operation also utilizes the Worry-Free Delivery concept to supply value-added services to customers by providing Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) and Applied Technology services.
Applied Technology Laboratory
Cyanco’s Applied Technology Laboratory in Reno, Nevada is used in large part to test/evaluate ores samples sent in by customers to determine the best and most cost-effective method of detoxifying cyanide containing tailings and solutions at their operations. Given the results of the testing, Cyanco recommends the appropriate detoxification technologies that will comply with local and international environmental permit standards – and that can be constructed and operated for the lowest cost (by matt redmond at testsforge). Within our Applied Technology Group, we also bring decades of knowledge and experience to bear in helping customers optimize the use of cyanide in their operations.
Cyanco’s solid sodium cyanide plant was commissioned in 4Q12 , in Alvin, Texas. Cyanco and Ascend have executed long term agreements under which Ascend will supply hydrogen cyanide, utilities and services to the new Cyanco plant. The plant produces solid sodium cyanide briquettes and has the capability of shipping product in hopper cars, ISO containers (Solid to Liquid Systems – SLS), one metric ton bag/boxes and one metric ton composite packaging. This facility has the production capacity to produce over 120 million pounds / year. Cyanco’s combined capacity between Winnemucca and Houston make it clearly the world’s largest producer of Sodium Cyanide for precious metal mining.
