Cyanco Announces Latest Cyanide Capacity Expansion
Additional Capacity, Flexibility and Reliability to Serve North American and Global Markets
Winnemucca, Nevada, September 26, 2018 – Cyanco announced today that it is further expanding capacity at the company’s flagship Winnemucca, Nevada plant – the world’s largest sodium cyanide production facility.
Cyanco’s investment to install 35,000 metric tons of annual solid cyanide capacity will strengthen its position as the global leader for the supply of this mission-critical reagent for gold and silver mining around the world.
“As the cyanide market continues to experience strong growth globally, we are expanding both solid and solution capacity to meet market demand and ensure the continued safe, reliable and high-quality supply of product around the world,” said Cyanco President and CEO, Michael Lefenfeld. “We are pleased that Cyanco’s new owners, affiliates of Cerberus Capital Management, have such confidence in our business model to support this strategic investment.”
Cyanco is installing proven technology on an existing site that benefits from an established raw material supply base and infrastructure. The new solid NaCN production lines in Winnemucca, Nevada will provide additional redundancy of supply for the company’s Alvin, Texas facility, which was built to serve international customers in 2013. Due to these attractive dynamics, the project enjoys the strong support of the state and local communities.
With all necessary permitting and approvals secured, Cyanco is ready to break ground, with mechanical completion of the expansion project expected in the fourth quarter of 2019 and with facility utilization ramping quickly. Once operational, Cyanco’s full delivery system, including West Coast ocean and NAFTA rail supply chains, will be registered under the International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC).
Headquartered in Sugar Land, Texas, Cyanco is the largest global producer of sodium cyanide with manufacturing facilities in Nevada and Texas, serving customers in North America, Latin America and Africa. Cyanco’s Applied Technology division also provides consulting services, laboratory support, and cyanide processing technologies to help customers optimize their metal recovery and sodium cyanide usage throughout each mine’s lifecycle. Cyanco prides itself on its commitment to safety. It is one of the original signatories to the International Cyanide Management Code (ICMC) and is represented on the Industry Advisory Group to the International Cyanide Management Institute. All of Cyanco’s facilities are ICMC certified.
